Reception and dinner at the Hermann-Grima
House include:
- A
tour of the Hermann-Grima House -- one of
the most elegant residences in the Crescent
City.
This handsome two-story brick mansion
was built in 1831, and is considered to be
the best example in the French Quarter of
American influence on New Orleans architecture.
Its original rear gallery overlooks a magnificent
courtyard while a fan-lit entrance, central
hall, and gracefully-curving staircase showcase
elements of its fashionable Federal style.
Your tour guide will accurately describe the
daily household routines of the 19th century
owners. You'll see their original
parterre beds filled with fragrant flowering
plants creating a tranquil oasis in the heart
of New Orleans. Elegant furnishings include
family portraits, and fine American Empire
and Rococo Revival pieces are found throughout
the house.
- Meals
prepared by trained cooks following period
recipes in the restored kitchen.
History comes alive as you can see egg whites
whipped with birch whisks, smell gumbo simmering
on the potager, and feel the intense heat
and bustle of an urban 19th century kitchen.
A sampling of cuisine is prepared determined
by the season.
Tent rental fee is additional.
